  • Front number plate mounting

All this recent talk of number plates got me thinking; has anyone tried removing the front number plate mount and replacing it with a stick on plate directly on to the bumper, but offset to the left (like some Alfa's)?

Think it might give a cleaner front look? It would mean filling in and respraying the old mounting holes etc... Would it be legal?

Thanks Spooks. Up to page 40, only another 300 to go. It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it.......

Page 211 has a silver car with plate to the side.

Page 214 is what i had in mind as I knew I had commented on it. Looks like the pics have been removed off the hosting site though?

On my Westfield the plate is a stick on job on the nose cone. As long as it is fairly vertical and reflective it shouldn't be a problem. The vertical part may be difficult on the MC though?

Spooks/Limbs, you guys are legends, thank you. Yup, that kind of look but with a stick on vinyl plate directly on the bumper. Any thoughts?

Ian, I believe the regs state that the plate must be mounted vertically, or as close to vertical as possible. I think you'd be hard pushed to get away with it on the bonnet.

Best left alone I think - off to one side looks dead odd to me.

you are left with mounting holes when you remove the front number plate holder/carrier.

I had mine smoothed off as I hate plates on the front.

My bracket was from the states and uses the tow to fix into and you can place the plate there, i only used this as if i took it to shows i would remove it so it would leave a nice clean look at the front.

I did also buy stick on smaller plate which was the same width as the front bumper, same as you see on the Ferraris where plates look just wrong!

I'm not a 100%, but I think it might look okay - no harm in trying. My bumper could do with a respray anyway, if the plate looks fine I'll have the bumper filled and sprayed. It's only the cost of a stick on plate to try it out....
