After a throughly pleasant drive out to the Haynes Breakfast Club car meet disaster struck.
I was near home when I started to hear a grumble from the engine when undercoat and at idle. It sounded as though the engine was running in 5 cylinders or as if the Vanos was noisy.
I limped the car home and popped the bonnet, I found that the viscous fan was lod edged into the radiator shroud. The fan blade had a 2cm gouge where it had hit the surround at force. My first thoughts were WTF!!!!
I managed to free the fan and I clipped the shroud back in place.
I restarted the engine and there was a slight whine from the fan area. I blipped the throttle a few times and the fan began to clatter against the shroud.
Does anyone have experience of what is wrong and/or what is required to rectify this? I changed the fan about 18months ago as it only had 5 blades on it.
Such a shame as the car has just come back from a service and having e valve clearances done and is/was running beautifully.
Thanks in advance.
Chris
