  • Royal purple gear oil

Just looking for some advice really. I know the Z's have LSD, so which grade of gear would I need 75/90 or 75/140.

Also what is the capacity of these gearboxes.

Also if I change the gearbox pipe to a Earl's braided hose, will i need to change the slave cylinder too.

    Thanks

Slave cylinder stays the same, it should bolt up fine. The hardest part for me was separating the original hose connection to the car, it's tight on the bulkhead and was extremely tight.

For rear diff oil I'd recommend sticking with Castrol Syntrax (formally XJ) 75/140 which is specified for BMW LSDs, unless you prefer the royal purple of course. Diff takes about 1.6 litres. The gearbox takes about the same, well a bit more, but under 2litres.

      Thanks for that CW.

It was the gear oil specifically i was looking at. I used Royal purple a while ago in my E46 M3. It worked a treat. If I was to try the Royal purple in the gearbox would it be the 75/90 Or the 75/140. What gear oil did you use CW in yours or did you go for the ATF.

      Thanks

In my gearbox I use AMSOIL MTF 5w30, seems to work quite well.

For the diff, the Castrol Syntrax 75/140.
