I reckon it's because the M Cars generally look pretty good also, and most BMW LCI updates are pre-planned (like orange indicators on the early cars, despite clear being used for decades) to keep interest in the model.

Yea I think ASC is effectively a 2nd throttle that closes to block the air, but it's a bit slow to react then cuts all the power make the car lurch about. I think I read somewhere that it wasn't also suited for the S50 as it was too slow to respond.

I find the S50 has a slightly more raw engine note and response to throttle inputs more progressive due to the proportional pedal/throttle body relationship

I feel it's a better fit with the old school drive of the MC.

The S54 really shines in the e46 M3 and it seems to breathe better and sound better than it does in the MC.

From a purchase and return element then the S54 is a better financial proposition due to the rarity - despite what personal preferences we have the market will always dictate this.
