  • Front subframe

According to Realoem the front subframe is different on the M cars to the Z3. Any idea on the differences?

Its a shame as I have a powder coated one with the quicker Z3 rack which I intended to swap over!

Looking at pictures online they look similar but you never know with BMW whether they give M parts new part numbers just to add M tax! I wouldn't chance it personally

I suppose the only way you will find out is to remove existing subframe and physically check them side by side, checking out dimensions etc. If it proves to be fully compatible you might just have found yourself a nice little earner there Martin.

Assume it's a 6cylinder you have as that is likely to be most similar to the M. It might be it has some extra strength somewhere, don't think engine mount or wishbone locations will be different on them.

The steering racks all fit each other though for definite.

Yeah that's what surprised me to be honest, the only difference could be internal strengthening

How difficult is it to swap a front subframe?

Should be relatively easy if you have a spreader bar to support the engine
