I can vouch for the shell bearings. This is a wise move for any long term keepers.

As I have updated my bearing I don't need them but would be keen to know what you would let the pedals go for.

    PM if you like.

    Thanks

    Russell

So these are standard bearing shells for the S54 engine.

Can anyone list the complete parts list required for the uprated bearing shell work to stop potential spinning?

I am over 230K miles on originals without any issues (touch wood!).

I'm a big believer in preventative maintenance in general, but not at all convinced about shell replacements.

            Those are for S50
I did the replacment recently, got around 150K kilometers on clock. It depands how you use youre engine, oil warm up, revs.. Quality of oil. I willl look at them closly every 50.000 km now.

                Thanks for the feedback Ian.
My local BMW approved service center (Murketts) where I have my car serviced did not make any recommendation for them to be replaced or find any notes on this problem either. So as long as I stick to regular annual oil changes and make sure to warm the car up properly before putting my foot down I think it should be OK. Again a touch wood scenario like yourself though, as others with less miles have had issues.

I think you are right Guido, I always get oil up to temp before exceeding 2.5K revs and have at least annual oil changes. The s54 engine appears bullet proof if treated with "mechanical sympathy". Lets continue to "touch wood" though!!

Now where's that lump of wood again...
