My Clio is Black/gold ( I've never been able to work out why it's called this as there's no gold on any of them !) it's a phase 2 and the third one I've owned - I bought it from the guy who was technical editor of the V6 website who'd owned it for sometime - it's standard apart from Recarro seats and he had the dashboard signed by the guy who designed the V6 and also by Jean Ragnotti the rally driver at a meeting he went to !

Servicing/running costs on 996 aren't overly expensive - I have my cars "looked after" by Specialist Cars of Malton who are excellent ( think I'll get them to service the Z3M as Munich Legends are about 250 miles away, I'm in East Yorkshire) I think the last annual service was about £350-ish and it does about 27mpg so pretty good

Look at the paint in direct sunlight and it has gold tint to it in the metallic flakes, can sometimes give it a brown hue though! I had a black gold 182 a few years ago was a nice car and colour!

I owned a Renault 5 Turbo2 (met brown) from new (sourced through Renault Export Munich and delivered to the Renault Boutique, Champs Elyssees, Paris) from 1985 to 1992 with very few problems.

I also bought a Renault Clio V6 255 (met red) from new and drove it for 3 years with very few problems.

Both of these cars I used as my daily driver. I think the cars that Renault built in Dieppe were pretty good.

Was that Mars red? They do look and sound amazing - having actually seen one in a long time though. Very different to your MC?

Well remembered. It was indeed Mars Red!
Having been a long time owner of the mid-engined 5 Turbo2, I immediately tried the Phase1 Clio. However, I reckoned it was an accident waiting to happen as the front suspension was way way too soft, allowing the weight to pitch forward on mid-corner throttle lift-off with obvious consequences. I couldn't get out of it quick enough.

The Phase 2 Clio V6 was a totally different beast in terms of suspension. REALLY benign handling when compared with the 5 Turbo2. I didn't find the Clio particularly fast at all. It sounded very good - a bit like a 911 (but indoors)! However, compared to the explosive character of the 5 Turbo2 and the bangs, pops and crackles, the Clio really was comparatively dull.

Interesting to hear. Whilst I wouldn't consider swapping my MC for one, I would buy one if I ever win the lottery big!

I'd have another 5 Turbo. I wouldn't have another Clio V6. Not because I disliked it in any way - just because I found it a bit of a non-event. My original Z3MC was much more fun. If you ever get the chance to drive a 5 Turbo - do it and you'll see what I mean. That's a whole different beast. Just don't try racing a lady with a blue rinse in a Renault 5TL away from the traffic lights. :-)

What sort of money do the 5 Turbos fetch now?

Mine was a late one. When I finally sold it, the protective polythene was still on the carpeted engine cover!

One like that will go for £30k these days.

Blue interior spoils it for me.
S54 Titan Silver metallic. Black leather, most factory options including sunroof, Becker Cascade and Becker Silverstone changer.
