  • Warming up question

    Afternoon MC'ers,

    Here's a question for you.

I'm taking my car to Wings and Wheels at Dunsfold this year and have the opportunity to do a few high speed runs.
As there isn't a warm up lap and it's really just a drag run or 2, is it enough to just warm the engine by leaving it running beforehand? Everything else would still be cold - diff, transmission etc. No-one in much more exotic stuff seemed to mind last year, but would like some thoughts out of consideration for the old girl...

    Cheers,

    David.

Tricky one, as you want the engine warm (oil up to temp) before thrashing it, but letting it warm up idling isn't ideal not to mention tend to get high intake temperatures from long periods of standing so it might feel sluggish on the first run.

Perhaps get it warm but give it some blips before running.

Yeah I’m not so worried about it being sluggish - it’s not timed or anything. Just the fact it’ll be gunned from cold - even if the engine is warm.
It’s only one day in its life but being mechanically sympathetic....
