I also use these bumpers to replace the missing bumper from the fuel-filler door.

Clean the mating tab on the body with a wax and grease remover (even alcohol or nail polish remover__just don't leave it liquid on the surface very long) and place the new bumper there (instead of on the gas door, as original).

The height is right for the panels to fit flush, and you're not apt to knock the bumper off the door each time you wash the car__you DO wash behind the door, RIGHT?

With a lost bumper, the door is sunken:

The fuel cap buffer (51178153364) isn't stick on, it fits in a housing in the fuel cap.

                        Cost is about 25p.
S54 Titan Silver metallic. Black leather, most factory options including sunroof, Becker Cascade and Becker Silverstone changer.

You are right Ian,however the fit of the plug is not that tight and easily lost.

I bought 10 plugs so no need to worry :) I also open & close it myself so am being gentle to the fuel cover

Granted, that's the way it was designed, but I'd bet that at least four (>4) out of every ten (10) cars I work on have the buffer missing, so it's obviously a flawed design.

The bumper rubber isn't prone to getting knocked off, so as long as the surface was properly cleaned before applying, it lasts indefinitely.

The buffer was missing when I purchased the car 8 years ago and I purchased one within the week (even though it was a BMW approved used car I didn't make a claim).

175K miles later its still there!!
