  • AC Evaporator Freezing Up

    Hi Guys,

Have a problem with the S50, HVAC airflow dropping with time.

I’ve traced it today to the evaporator being frozen. Further investigation proves the AC Compressor is kicking in with the air con button switched off.

Button checks out OK on multimeter.
Pulling relay stops compressor ever coming on (therefore clutch ok)
    System it’s re-gassed with 900g last week.

Would appreciate help on what controls the compressor request? And if anyone has experience with useful fault codes?

I would suspect the evaporator temp sensor next for not telling the AC Compressor to switch off with low evaporator temp. However, the AC Compressor clutches in at start up at 20deg ambient even with AC switched off. I can then switch AC switch on, with compressor keeping running, but when I then switch off it clutches out, but 10s later without touching the controls clutching es back in and runs permenantly.

Any help or experience would be great!

Im not sure, but could it be a problem with a sticking/faulty relay perhaps
