Looks like they originally stuck it on first and then measured it because I'm sure that nobody would actually decide on 23mm
I finally arrived at the light at the end of the tunnel only to find it was another tunnel with the light on!

          Indy,

          I'm getting worried about you!

You started this thread in the middle of the bloody night! You MUST get some rest and stop obsessing!

I still can't fathom the placing of the S54 badges, it just looks wrong to me!

Anyway I prefer a sidebadge on the rear as the normal ones look too big!

My badge is in the wrong place (thanks Indy!)

What's the best way to remove it without causing any damage? And then, best way to get it back on, ie some good, thin double sided tape?

I suppose you're used to looking at the S50 version. There is aesthetic logic to the placement. The top of the badge lies along the same horizontal line as the top of the right-side light cluster and this then dictates that the badge is 23mm from the bottom edge of the rear door so for the sake of symmetry, the badge must be 23mm from the side edge of the rear door. It looks right to me.

Pour hot water over the badge and wait a minute or so to let the badge warm up and then peel it off.

the B measurement is taken (marked up) like this (pic is for the E46 M3, but same applies to the MC)

                              Thanks Exdos, sounds simple enough.

                              http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-BM...item3a73f32158

This ebay add details the fishing line/floss technique explained in link Dave posted!

Ad is for part number 51142694404 which is the S54 version claimed not to fade (or at least not as quickly)

I don't want to go to the trouble of replacing/repositioning the badge if Indy then notices it's not an OEM badge for an S50??!

I can't tell the diff from the pics...
