Do you reckon that BMW are doing this knowingly based upon being back order or made to order or is it their ERP system running with some crazy algorithm that works out pricing based upon age / last time ordered / price of the MCoupe in 2016 etc.
Surely the price of some of those screws could be down to the logistics and stock costs as opposed to anything else!
Dave, given you have replaced every nut and bolt on your car, are there are items you have found substitutes for?
There are easy ones like slam panel hex screws are pennies for nice stainless items and jubilee clips are an easy swap again for nice stainless items but anything else?

the correct part numbers now that were originally fitted in 1998.
Many new nuts/bolts now supplied by BMW are silver in finish but back in 1998 they had a gold metal finish not that many people will be bothered except me maybe.

Absolutely stupid some of these prices. £10 for a screw (you'd need to have one loose to pay that!) £750 for a headlight that was used on a mass-produced car (ie including all Z3s) and isn't that great build, it's pure profiteering. There's absolutely no way I would buy fixings/screws from BMW unless absolutely necessary as most of these can be sourced elsewhere for pence.Last edited by c_w; 25-12-2016, 02:53 PM.
