Absolutely sickening to watch this morning. One of the best personalities and talents in racing. RIP dude and thoughts to all those that were close to him. Really feel for Edwards and Rossi.

Only just read this on the internet BBC World News, quite a shocked when I saw it. He was just starting to make his presence felt and there was something quite likeable about him. What a week for Motor Sport first Dan Wheldon and now Marco Simoncelli.

      RIP Marco

I was watching it myself and it was an awful accident.

When the force of impact tears off your crash helmet things do not look good.He was a character and had been berated many times for his aggressive and wild riding style, but this was a freak accident.

Normally a low side would have seen him in the gravel trap and wandering back to the pits, but the bike grabbed a bit of traction and righted itelf, straight into the path of Edwards and Rossi..It was totally unavoidable for them to not hit him.

I feel gutted for Edwards.it wouldnt suprise me if he retired from racing now.

It did indeed, though on the BBC live coverage they reported that Sic was conscious in the medical centre not long after the accident. Whether that was the case or not, who knows.

Sickening accident and a great loss to MotoGP - he was one of the characters making it interesting this season.

Obviously sympathy for his family etc. but you've also got to feel for Rossi and Edwards . . .

Great shame, and a great loss to motorcycle racing.

I'll be thinking of him next time I put my helmet on (even though it will be next spring now).

                Good column from Mr Schwantz:
