Hi Dave, thanks for the info and the welcome - I'll look into those parts as suggested... if anyone has these would be interested in talking about prices.

The advert has been taken down as I have put down a (refundable) holding deposit pending the inspection... unfortunately I didn't have the foresight to save the pics down but the engine bay is black... should this ring alarm bells?

If its had front suspension damage then the under bonnet may have been re-sprayed but looks like not to original spec on this car (common on catc/d)

Welcome! From what you're saying it sounds as if the garage that repaired the car are claiming a decent job when it was put back together.

Isn't it a contradiction that they've not used the correct bumper, lights et cetera? Moreover could have done a better job in aligning the panels?

I'm not suggesting that this car could not be a good buy or investment as you say, however, I think the price is too high given the works required to return it to proper spec.

Good luck!

Agreed, it does seem odd - what prices are we talking for original 'M' parts? I.e. bumper etc.?

At what price would the car start to make sense?

FYI - the current owner paid £11k last year for the car and has completed the above works to it (£700).

Are these parts just standard z3 items?

As above, it if was expertly repaired how did they manage to fit the wrong parts on the front end? Thats just the stuff you CAN see…… It could be a good car though and maybe you would get as much joy out of it as any other car but in terms of an investment (as you mentioned) it will always have its cat status. Its been on pistonheads for months for a reason.. its less desirable. Id get him to move on the price.

lights are the same as some z3's or you can swap the orange indicators for clear but involves a fair bit off work. A new font bumper is around £450 I think but ad in new grill and air ducts etc (if needed)

and you could spend nearer £1k before paint

Hi, spoken to the previous owners - he insists that these are OEM parts but admits they may not be the correct spec 'M' parts. His salvage garage is not a BMW specialist but has completed work on BMW/Porsche/Range Rovers etc... can anyone point out what the main differences are if possible? I've tried looking at google pics to identify the differences but can't see what they would be?

Also wrt the suspension, he insists that this was done correctly with OEM parts but will request this is assessed by the inspector... are there any other things I should request are inspected for the m coupe? i.e. weak points? My friend advised the boot floor?
