  • Ryder Cup Experience

Just spent most of last week marshalling at The Ryder Cup, Gleneagles. Organisationally a disaster with a lack of information as to when we were due to work shifts, with many of us finding out on the morning we arrived for duty. Spent the first 3 hours still in the dark, and even the Grandstand Leader not aware of what/where.
The same chap resigned on Saturday evening having been abused by the queuing public, unable to handle the pressure, and he had travelled from Illinois! Many patrons complained of a lack of toilets, having paid over £100 / ticket.
Allied to a promised shift pattern that did not materialise did not add up to a happy Volunteer experience, with the nett result a very curtailed golf viewing experience
Great to see a European victory, but boy, were we made to work for the privilege of seeing a fleeting glimpse of the action.

I wouldn't worry, golf courses are just a waste of a good enduro track anyway

      Nightmare.

But good job you boys didn't vote yes, quite literally sounds that a pee up in a brewery couldn't have been organised....

        Haha funny Ian.

        Sounds a bit rubbish then.

Was great watching it in the pub / on sofa. Probably the best with most things unless you really must feel the vibe...... usually from a hospitality area with a tv works best.

          Atmosphere

You can only really experience the atmosphere even at a golfing event, by being there. The crowds were great, mostly golfers of course, and some of the outfits were fabulous, with a full American Football squad 30 odd dressed in horned helmets!
There was a humorous moment when a flock of Geese flew overhead, very noisily, and they totally ignored the "Quiet Please Paddles" the Grandstand laughed so much, the player stood back from his Putt, it was practice day.......................

            Totally agree.

Being used for cheap labour should work both ways.
